THE UNAUTHORISED ANDREAS ANGELIDAKIS

How many architects have you met who, instead of designing shiny new buildings, create ruins made of foam and canvas blocks? For Angelidakis, architecture, archaeology, the internet, and the unauthorised building as an “architectural style” form the foundations of his own mind palace. Somewhere between the inauguration of his installation for the Bresciadue metro station in Northern Italy, where he dressed 13-metre-high columns with PVC coverings in the Ionic style, the publication of the zine Sissy in collaboration with Hyper Hypo, and his recent public art installation for Onassis Stegi, we meet him at his home and “construction site” near Victoria Square. With the background noise of his vacuum cleaner, he talks to me about the dolls from his childhood and those of Syngrou, the clubs he designed in the ‛90s while studying in the U.S., Athens as a trans entity, and Greece’s entry into the European Union as another season of RuPaul’s Drag Race(…)

Πόσους αρχιτέκτονες έχετε συναντήσει που αντί για γυαλιστερά νέα κτίρια σχεδιάζουν ερείπια από αφρό και μπλοκ μουσαμά; Για τον Αγγελιδάκη η αρχιτεκτονική, η αρχαιολογία, το ίντερνετ
και το αυθαίρετο ως «αρχιτεκτονικός ρυθμός» αποτελούν τα θεμέλια του δικού του mind palace. Κάπου ανάμεσα στα εγκαίνια του installation του για το σταθμό του μετρό Bresciadue στη Βόρεια Ιταλία, για τα οποία έντυσε κολώνες ύψους 13 μέτρων με PVC καλύμματα ιωνικού ρυθμού, την έκδοση του zine Sissy σε συνεργασία με το Hyper Hypo, και το πρόσφατό του public installation για τη Στέγη Ιδρύματος Ωνάση, τον συναντάμε στο σπίτι και “οικοδομή” του πλησίον της Πλατείας Βικτωρίας. Με background noise τον ήχο της ηλεκτρικής του σκούπας, μου μιλάει για τις κούκλες των παιδικών του χρόνων και αυτές της Συγγρού, τα club που σχεδίαζε στα ‛90s παράλληλα με τις σπουδές του στην Αμερική, την Αθήνα ως trans οντότητα και την είσοδο της Ελλάδας στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ένωση ως ένα άλλο RuPaul’s Drag Race(…)
