The first time I came across Queerwave film festival was inadvertently in passing through a film programmer of the BFI Flare, another LGBTQIA+ film festival in London. Considering
myself a chronic cinephile, queer and from
Cyprus, it was to my chagrin to have not heard about it, and by that point it was
already in its third edition. And furthermore,
it took place in the heart of the walled old town of Nicosia, the city where I grew up, a part of the city which have come to appreciate its gradual rejuvenation, but more importantly the place where my love for cinema was born and shaped(…)

Η πρώτη μου επαφή με το φεστιβάλ κινηματογράφου Queerwave προέκυψε τυχαία, μέσα από έναν film programmer του BFI Flare, ενός LGBTQIA+ κινηματογραφικού φεστιβάλ στο Λονδίνο. Ως χρόνια σινεφίλ, queer και καταγόμενος από την Κύπρο, με απογοήτευσε το γεγονός ότι δεν το είχα ξανακούσει, παρότι διένυε ήδη το τρίτο έτος ύπαρξής του. Το φεστιβάλ πραγματοποιείται εντός των τειχών, στην καρδιά της παλιάς πόλης της Λευκωσίας — της πόλης όπου μεγάλωσα — και πιο συγκεκριμένα σε μια γειτονιά που έχω αρχίσει να εκτιμώ ιδιαίτερα για τη σταδιακή της αναζωογόνηση. Μα πάνω απ’ όλα, είναι το μέρος όπου γεννήθηκε και διαμορφώθηκε η αγάπη μου
για τον κινηματογράφο(…)
